He was predeceased by: his parents, William Thomas and Louise Whaley Benton; and his siblings, Hubert Benton, Roy Benton, Jim Benton, Gerald Benton, Margaret Powell, Eva Leonard and Ann Milton.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ann Shackelford Benton; his sons, Chad Stewart Benton (CA) of Los Angeles and Brian Neil Benton (Keeley) of Chesapeake; and also Gibbs. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law.
Family suggests that donations be considered to the American Cancer Society rather than floral remembrances.
