He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Willard Whittington and Veadie South Whittington; and his siblings, Doris Pruett, Iris Sexton and Clement Whittington.

He is survived by: his fiancée Sue Tesh; his daughters, Dana Whittington Muto (Melissa James), Lisa Whittington Gamble (Ken) and Rebecca Ann Heath (Chris); his grandchildren, Daniel Muto (Liliane), Katherine Muto Goodnight (Jerry), Sara Gamble, Ben Gamble (Mary Anne Stear), Clarissa Lawrence (Gage) and Matthew Moore; and his great grandchildren, Jack and Berrien. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
