He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Tant and Reca Massey Tant; and his wife Frances Tutor Tant. He is survived by: his daughters, Theresa (Sandy Kennedy) of Youngsville and Sheryl Heise of Ponte Vedra; his grandchildren, Lisa Heise of Jacksonville and John Heise (Courtney); and his great grandchildren, Elijah and Lily of Riverview, Florida..

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Transitions HospiceCare, 200 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, 27607.
