She was predeceased by: her parents, Eric Haywood Holmes and Henrietta Smith Holmes; her husband Donald VanPutte; and her siblings, Donald Holmes and Mary Etta Lassiter.
She is survived by: her children, Curtis McConnell (Cynthia Paschall) of Wake Forest and Angela McConnell Wolfe of Wake Forest; her grandson Zachary Wood; and her sister Betty Joan Barham of Raleigh. She is also survived by nieces, nephews.
