She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Fulford McMillan, Sr. and Lucy Sumner McMillan; and her brother John William "Bill" McMillan. She is survived by: her husband Samuel Smith; her children, Wayne Thomas Smith of Laurinburg, Catherine Smith McLaurin (Mac) of McColl, SC and Lucy Smith Gottlieb (Rich) of Willow Spring; her siblings, Joseph Fulford "Joe" McMillan, Jr. of Pinehurst and Gayle McMillan Ellis of Raeford; and her grandchildren, Leah Gottlieb, Zachary Gottlieb, Anna Gottlieb, Sarah McLaurin and Sumner McLaurin.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to be made in Kate's memory to Montpelier Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 407, Wagram, NC 28396 or Scotland Regional Hospice, Post Office Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.

“I am so very sorry for the loss of Kate. She was such a sweet, sweet person. We had been texting while she was in rehab and she was so happy to go home.
