He was predeceased by: his parents, Harmon Lee Thompson and Mamie Eugenia Hildreth Thompson; his wife Helen Kiker Thompson; and his siblings, Bill Thompson and Mamie Cranford.
He is survived by: his children, Butch Thompson (Kathy) of Wadesboro, Patricia "Toosie" Thompson of Wadesboro and Mason Thompson (Jo Lynn) of Concord; his grandchildren, Kevin Melton (April) of Chesterfield, SC, Christy Melton of Wadesboro, Cari Thompson King (Patrick) of Norwood, Ashley Thompson Friedman (Itamar) of Charlotte and Hailey Thomspon of Myrtle Beach, SC; his great grandchildren, Brooke, Leane, Hailey Melton and Cassidy Harward; and his great great grandchildren, Sophia Parks, McKinlee Deese and Kasen Walsh.
