He was predeceased by: his parents, James Risden Hornback and Vera Ina Hornback; his siblings, Richard Hornback, Ronnie Sherrill Hornback and Janice H. Faulkner; and his niece Glenda C. McGrady.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Walters Hornback; his stepdaughter Jennie Dutton (Ryan) of Wadesboro; his stepgrandchildren, Hilary, Edward and Jacob of Wadesboro; his sisters, Carol H. Carpenter and Elizabeth "Libby" H. Beachum (David) of Peachland; and his pet Trixie. He is also survived by 3 nieces and 5 nephews.
He was a history buff, historian preservationist, and he donated the first item for the Marshville Museum.
