He was predeceased by: his parents, Rommie Lee Austin and Ruth Levinia Thomas Austin; his grandson Jack Austin; his great grandchild Devin Beam; his brother Raeford Lee Austin; his sister-in-law Judy; and his parents-in-law, Bill and Ila Mae High.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Mae High Austin; his children, Richard Lynn Austin (Katherine) of High Point, Michael Rodney Austin (Frances) of Polkton, David Charles Austin (Robin) of Kannapolis, Kim Austin Carpenter (Mike) of Peachland and Lisa Austin Caudle (Anthony) of Peachland; his grandchildren, Allison Archbine (Jamal), Craig Austin (Stephanie), Connie Beam (Kyle), Chad Austin (Krystal), Felicia Peacock (Jordan), Russell Austin (Sarah), Dustin Allen (Candy), Cody Allen (Rose), Matt Carpenter (Alice), Caleb Carpenter (Mika Rushing), Clarissa Hilliard (Josh) and Christian Caulder (Shelby); and his great grandchildren, Rukia, Laith, Malerie, Caroline, Hannah, Adam, Emma, Brice, Amity, Hunter, Aubrey, Ella, Landon, Logan, Joshua, Charles, Elizabeth, Ivy, Brantley, Calum, Fletcher, Haegen, Remington, Riley, Bentley, Briella, Emberly, Weston and Kaiden. He is also survived by his family and friends.
