He was predeceased by: his parents, Worth Melvin Collier and Lona Matthews Collier; and his brother Larry Melvin Collier. He is survived by: his wife Janet W. Collier; his son David A. Collier (Kelly G. Collier) of Wade; his granddaughter Taylor C. McPhail (Eric McPhail) of Wade; his great grandchild Luke McPhail; his siblings, Otis Collier (Linda Collier) of Smithfield and Ann C. Horne (Johnny Horne) of Stedman; his nephews, Ray Collier (Fran) of Deep Run, Adam Horne (Felicia) of Stedman and Stephen Horne of Stedman; his niece Amy Prakke (Mark) of Raleigh; his caregiver Linda Brewington Thompson of Wade; his siblings-in-law, Herman Warren (Brenda) of Washington, NC and Dixie Honeycutt of Dunn; his nieces, Angela Warren (Ricky) of Dunn and Ginger Johnson (Brian) of Dunn; and his nephew Lee Honeycutt (Julie) of Dunn.
In 2000, Wingate was inducted into the Cumberland County Agricultural Hall of Fame, a prestigious recognition for residents who have made significant contributions to agriculture and the rural community.
