He was predeceased by: his parents, Ervin Ricks Elks and Gladys Crisp Elks; and his siblings, Ashley Merriel Elks and Nancy Dortres Smith. He is survived by: his wife Jewel Taylor Elks of Vanceboro, NC; his sons, Ervin Medfred Elks (Virgie) of Ponzer, NC and David Earl Elks (Donna) of Vanceboro, NC; his siblings, Ollie J. Allen (Wade) of Belhaven, NC and Ricks Elks (Peggy) of Chocowinity, NC; his grandchildren, Chris Elks, Jamie Elks and Robert Elks; and his great grandchildren, Gabriel Elks, Jayden Elks, Addilynn Elks, Elijah Elks, Jewel Elks and Jayce Elks.
