He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Johnny, Sara Gardner, Ennis and Ada Gardner. He is survived by: his parents, Harry Gardner and Elaine Gardner; and his sister Denise Lancaster. He is also survived by his parents, sister, brother-in-law, two nephews and their spouses, a niece and her spouse, and 2 grand nephews.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society in honor of John.
