He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Elbert Smith, Sr. and Vera Lancaster Smith. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Sutton Smith; his son David Hal Smith of Denver, CO; his sister Sarah Elizabeth Keen (Betsy) of Virginia Beach, VA; his nieces, Elizabeth Hartz (Liz) of Virginia Beach, VA, Laura Keen-Server of Santa Cruz, CA and Jennifer Herbert of Marblehead, MA; and his nephew Alex Heck of Winterville, NC..
