He was predeceased by: his parents, James Evans and Pearlie Evans; his wife Anne Smith Evans; and his sons, Michael Evans and Dennis Smith.
He is survived by: his sons, Kelly Evans of Houston and Jerry Smith (Sadie) of Greenville; his daughter-in-law Denise Smith of Vanceboro; his grandchildren, Amber Smith, Noelle Smith, Deryn Smith, Dawsyn Smith and Dylan Smith; and his siblings, Mildred McLawhorn, James "Alonza" Evans (Shirley), Walter Evans (Evelyn) and Dorothy "Dot" Coward (Melvin). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
