He was predeceased by: his former wife Hazel Henson Whetstine; and his brother Ray Whetstine. He is survived by: his wife Judy Thornberry Whetstine; his children, Randy Whetstine (Tanya) of Valdese and Lisa James (Edwin) of Morganton; his siblings, Arthur "Cotton" Whetstine (Alma) of Drexel, Jim Whetstine (Martha) of Greenville, SC, Larry Whetstine of Conover, Betty Saulmon of Drexel and Edith Tester (Zane) of Boone, NC; his sister-in-law Beulah Whetstine; and his grandchildren, Ceslie, Samuel, Sawyer James, Cooper Whetstine and Kristen James.
