He was predeceased by: his parents, James Pinkney Gibbs and Hattie Duckworth Gibbs; his siblings, Ned Gibbs, Dan Gibbs, Lillian Gibbs Craig, Millie Gibbs, Martha "Tuny" Anderson and Rose Whisnant; and his close friend David Campbell.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Deal Gibbs; and his children, Douglas Keith Gibbs and Karen Gibbs Barrett (Jeff).
