He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Reinhard Gschwend and Evaline Mahon Gschwend; his wife Louise Owens Gschwend; and his siblings, Manesseh Gschwend (Pricilla), Eldad Gschwend Bosch and Dorothy Gschwend Spykerman (Harry).
He is survived by: his children, Phillip Joseph Gschwend (Freda Sheehan Gschwend) and Margaret Gschwend Gilmore (Aaron Gilmore); his grandchildren, Phillip "Joseph" Gschwend, Adrian Gschwend Hammond, Khristina Kitchen (Kenny) and Gloria Gilmore Matthews (Noah); his great grandchildren, Kayla, Kendra, Khloe, Kelton, Kaiden, Kaitlynn, Kamron, Kinsley, Kooper Kitchen, Isabelle, Anya, Alphonse Matthews and Noah Joseph Hammond; and his brother Edgar Gschwend (Betsie).
