He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Smith and Victoria Guinn Smith; and his brother Jack Smith. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Walker Smith; his sons, Jamie Smith (Amy) of Charlotte and Michael Smith (Clare) of Statesville; and his brother Fred Smith of Kodak, Tennessee.. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
