He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Watson and Ethel Carlson Wharton; and his sister Emily. He is survived by: his wife Claire Connors Wharton; his children, Jesse Wharton of Asheville and Benton Wharton of Nashville; his children-in-law, Trevor Hermann and Jessica Wharton; his grandsons, Holden, Townsend, Everett and Alister; and his niece Brittany Hopping.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Thermal Belt Outreach in honor of Carl.
