We are sad to announce that on March 9, 2022, at the age of 83, James Samuel Smitherman Jr. formerly of Troy, North Carolina, born in Albemarle, North Carolina passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, James Samuel Smitherman and Elizabeth Stacey Wade Smitherman; and his wife Susan Farnham Dodd. He is survived by: his daughters, Jennifer Wade Smitherman Carpenter (Barry) of Greensboro and Nina-Louise Smitherman Rivenbark (Allen) of Wilmington; his grandsons, Clay Carpenter of Charleston, Smith Carpenter of New York, Trey Rivenbark of Wilmington and Wade Rivenbark of Wilmington; his sister Susan Snuggs of Concord; and his sisters-in-law, Florence Channey (Steve) of St Augustine and Cheryl Grandfield of New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following in "Smut's" memory: Friends of the Maritime Museum in Beaufort, North Carolina and The Memory Counseling Program at the Sticht Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
