He was predeceased by: his parents, Dan Luther and Carrie Cranford Luther; and his siblings, Robert Luther, Loyce Luther, Wallace Luther, Alta Luther, Blanche Daniel, Betty DeBerry and Ruth Holt.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Lanier Luther; his children, J. D. Luther (Cheryl) of Denton and Tammy Burge (Wayne) of Winston-Salem; his grandchildren, Steven Luther, Sarah McDowell and Ryan Burge; and his great grandchildren, Bella, Clayton, Lula and Hudson.
