He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Winborn Thompson, Sr. and Pauline Dennis Thompson; his son Earl W. Thompson, III; and his brother Jerry Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Coggins Thompson; his children, Amy Hill, Kea T. Freeman of Troy and Jamie W. Thompson of Troy; and his siblings, Margaret Greene, Dorothy Lee, Linda Thompson, Darlene Thompson of Troy, Nancy Lamonds of Asheboro, Randy Thompson of Hickory, Roger Thompson and Dennis Thompson of Troy. He is also survived by six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
