He was predeceased by: his parents, Sanford Floyd Johnson and Essie Neal Johnson; his former wife Mary Ruth Johnson; his wife Shelby Jean Johnson; his daughter Bridgett Joy Johnson; and his brothers, Julian Neal Johnson and Jerry Wayne Johnson.
He is survived by: his children, Robin Johnson, Lisa Johnson Wall, Virgil R. Johnson, II (Evelyn) of Salisbury and Bobby Lee Johnson of Salisbury; his grandchildren, Misty Dawn Burch, Bobby Preston Johnson, Jessey Johnson and Brent Jacob Wall; and his significant other Rex Oil Co. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
