He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilho Matti and Phyllis Beebe Stapel. He is survived by: his sons, Jacob Stapel (Jennifer) of Maine and Jason Stapel (Kelly) of Massachusetts; his siblings, Lois Pekkala of New Hampshire, Diane O'Reilly of North Carolina, Tom Stapel (Beverly) of Vermont and Ronald Stapel (Linda) of New Hampshire; and his nephew John Pekkala of Trinity. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
