He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Henry Varner and Maggie Jane Williams Varner; his former wife Barbara Ann Wade Varner; his son John William "Bill" Varner; his wife Betty Echerd Varner; his sisters, Linda Farlow and Jane Lambeth; his children, Steve Austin Varner, Kylie Perry, Lois Ann Roberts and Janet Lynn Burhart (Roger); and his grandchildren, Chad Varner, John Varner, Emily Varner Hayes, Catherine Britt (David), Misty Latham, Regina Hopkins, Aidan Martin, Joshua Roberts and Tigh Parker (Mark). He was also cherished by 14 great grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren and an enormous amount of friends and family.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, April 13th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church (2354 Finch Farm Rd, Trinity, NC 27370).
