He was predeceased by: his parents, Riley Woodrow "Woody" and Grace Skeen Sumner; and his siblings, Darrell, Vonny Sumner and Euphon Metzger.
He is survived by: his wife Lois Surratt Sumner; his children, George "Riley" Sumner, Dee Sumner Branning (Ricky Fleming), Lee Sumner Hartsell (Bruce) and Greg Sumner; his stepson Brian Hyde; his sister Carolyn Hedrick (Bill); and his grandchildren, Randall Hartsell (Brittany), Jessica Branning Goodwin, Shandall Hartsell Younts (Chris) and Daniel Hartsell.
