He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ivey Roosevelt Metts, Sr. and Patricia Foy Metts; his wife Debbie Riggs Metts; his children, Timothy Metts, Laura Freeman (Harvey), Daniel Metts, Jessica Robinson (Marcus), Karen Metts, Bonnie Metts, Kaitlyn Webster (Caleb), Anna Metts, Jaimy Metts, Joseph Metts and Joshua Metts; his grandchildren, Seth Freeman, Elijah Freeman, Zadok Freeman, Asher Freeman, Ian Freeman, Ronan Freeman, Levi Webster, Evelyn Webster and Marceline Robinson; and his brothers, Kenneth Metts and Ivey Metts, Jr. (Bud).

Visitation was held on Monday, December 30th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cotten Funeral Home (2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, NC 28560). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Tabernacle Baptist Church (616 Broad St, New Bern, NC 28560).
