He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Asbery and Bertha Ellen Bryant Ward; his son Stephen Ward; his stepdaughter Renee Hamlin; his daughter-in-law Jean Ward; and his siblings, Barbara Billings, Brenda "Kitty" Orris and Dorman Ward.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Harris Ward; his children, Sam Ward Jr. of Warfordsburg, PA and Deborah "Debbie" Buckley (Roger) of Baltimore, MD; his stepchildren, Steve Dowell (Tammy) of Traphill and Regina Stamper of North Wilkesboro; and his siblings, Joy Abromitis of Highspire, PA, James Mickey Ward (Sharyn) of McClure, PA and Ivan Alexander (Patty Damon). He is also survived by four grandsons, one granddaughter, four step grandsons, 1 step granddaughter, several great-grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews.
