He was predeceased by: his parents, E. D. Burchette and Carrie Poe Burchette; his wife Bonnie Burchette; his brother Ray Burchette; and his grandchildren, Matthew Johnson and Robyn Reaves.

He is survived by: his children, David Burchette (Mary) of State Road and Becky Johnson (Bill) of North Wilkesboro; his siblings, Bill Burchette of West Jefferson, Irene Woodruff of Thurmond and Naida Chambers of State Road; and his grandchildren, Gary Reaves (Jennifer), Amy Soots (Marty), Shane Johnson (Veronica) and Jessica Staley (Bruce). He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
