He was predeceased by: his parents, John Irwin and Alma Lawson Howard; his wife Gloria Ann Carter Howard; and his brothers, Alfred and Larry Howard.
He is survived by: his children, James McCormick of Elkin, Crystal Kegley of Staunton, VA, Kimberly Bates of Elkin and Betty Jo Wilson of Bardwell, KY; his siblings, Johnny Howard (Karen) of Thurmond, Allen Howard (Sherry) of Yadkinville and Linda Lineberry of Mountain Park; and his grandchildren, Christopher, Drema, Mercedes, Brittany, Eric, Chasidy, Matthew, Shawna, Hallie and Brayden. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren.
