He was predeceased by: his parents, Bessie Wells and Thomas Daniel Wells; his wife Betty Sechrest Wells; and his siblings, Edgar Wells, Lorene Clodfelter, Jackie Whitaker and Katherine Jackson.
He is survived by: his children, Thomas R. Wells, Robert T. Wells (Cindy) and Debra Mathis (Christopher); and his siblings, Eugene Wells, Betty Stone and Sandy Moore. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; as well as many extended family and friends.
