He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Kearns and Mary Kearns; his wife Lula Bowers Kearns; and his siblings, Garry Kearns, Martha Kearns, Larry Kearns and Barry Kearns.

He is survived by: his daughters, Kim Covington (Phillip) of Archdale, Susan Skaggs (John) of Summerfield and Tracey Kearns of Thomasville; his granddaughters, Megan Johnson (Zane), Caitlin Akerman (Randy) and Carly Ysidron (Dominic); his great grandchild Mark Akerman; and his brothers, Terry Kearns, Joe Kearns (Sandy) and Joel Kearns. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Memorials may be given to the Veterans organization of the donor's choice.
