He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Frank L. Rankin and Vallie Mae Lawrence Rankin; his wife Martha Anne David Rankin of Asheville; his daughters, MaryAnne R. Byerly and Susan R. McCrary (Dicky); his grandchildren, Tatum Anne Edwards, Trotter David Byerly, Kelley Paige McCrary and Cole Rankin McCrary; his stepgrandson Troy McCrary (Emily McCrary); and his stepgreat-granddaughter Ella Taylor McCrary.
