He was predeceased by: his parents, Christine Tatum and Lawrence Pugh Zachary; his wife Ophelia; and his siblings, L. P. Zachary, Jr., Christine Z. Gilbert and Lillian Z. Brookshire.
He is survived by: his children, Benjamin Zachary (Carol) of Taylorsville, Joseph Zachary (Judith) of Chapel Hill, Ann Z. Poole (Phil) of Greensboro and Daniel Zachary (Rebecca Frank) of Chapel Hill; his grandson Matthew Poole of Charlotte; and his children, Christine Poole of Minturn, CO, Rachel Zachary of Sandy Springs, GA, Elisabeth Zachary of Rockville, MD, Samuel Zachary, Spencer Zachary of Los Angeles, CA, Eli Zachary of Chapel Hill and Abby Zachary of Cambridge, MA.
As a courtesy to all, the family asks attendees of the Celebration of Life service to please wear a mask while inside Arbor Acres buildings.
