He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ann Hefner Lail; his children, Sam Lail, Jr. (Shirley) of Huntsville and Sonya Lail of Frisco; his grandchildren, Skylar Lail of Huntsville and Sara Hudson of Huntsville; and his siblings, Harold Lail of Claremont, David Lail of Taylorsville, Ann Lail of Taylorsville, Helen Terry of Conover and Mary Sayles of Taylorsville.
