She was predeceased by: her parents, Bessie Mae Patterson of Waco and Kelley Montgomery of Blacksburg; and her sisters, Darlene Fears, Francis Tate and Essie Patterson of Shelby.

She is survived by: her husband Lloyd Ivey Tate, Sr.; her siblings, Louise Montgomery of Philadelphia, PA, Bettyanne Hogue of Cleveland, Bobby Montgomery and Jessie McClinton of Shelby, NC.; and her cousins, Maryann Simms and Judy Hartgrove. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
