He was predeceased by: his parents, Gus Pennell and Alice Pennell; his wife Sallie Pennell; his son William "Sunny" Pennell; and his sons-in-law, Dennis Sigmon, Mark Robbins and Richard Phillips.
He is survived by: his daughters, Nina Ruth Sigmon, Marsha Jane Spaugh (Timothy), Cynthia Rose Robbins and Patricia Lee Roark (Thomas); his grandchildren, Douglas Sigmon, Dawn McCoy (Sidney McCoy II), Frankie Speagle and Scott Phillips; and his great grandchildren, Douglas Ralph Sigmon Jr., Sidney McCoy III, Ashleigh Waugh (Cameron) and Shyann Sigmon.
