He is survived by : his wife Gaye Ensley Buchanan; his children, Jeff Buchanan (Kelley) of Hendersonville and Amy Buchanan Pitts (Jerry) of Apalachicola, Florida.; his grandchildren, Sarah, Samuel, Handley and Eli; his sister Henrietta Bradley; his son Jason (Clara Turpin); his son-in-law Ronnie; and his son Chris.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 3rd 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church (669 W Main St, Sylva, NC 28778). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 3rd 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, July 3rd 2024 at 3:00 PM at the East Fork Cemetery (128 E Fork Cemetery Rd, Sylva, NC 28779).
