He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Francis and Alice Littrell Hartbarger; his wife Barbara Jean Digges Hartbarger; his sister Susie Hartbarger Hassard; his granddaughter Elizabeth Blair Hartbarger; his sons, Buzz (Mary) and Scott (Sharon); his grandchildren, Julia Hartbarger Duvall (Corey), Jay (Kaitlyn), Benjamin, Christopher and Will Hartbarger; and his great grandchild JB Duvall.

In lieu of flowers, the Hartbarger family asks that donations be made in honor of Jim to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Foundation.
