He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Whaley Cockrell; his children, Jason Cockrell (Ginny) of Bay St, Joel Cockrell (Lisa) and Alyson Machon of Bath, NC; his stepsons, Randal Riggs (Roxanna), Cary Riggs, Jamie Riggs (Tiffany) and Warren Riggs; his sister Sandra McLaurin (Melton) of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Riggs, Coston Daugherty (Mark), Anne-Burton Pinson (Michael), John Cockrell, Katlin Bell (Mark), Jayden Cockrell, Auggie Cockrell and Riley Cockrell; and his great grandchildren, Leighton, Aislinn, Ellison, Jonathan, Jennifer and Brittain.
