He was predeceased by: his parents, R. T Layton, Jr. and Nellie Palmer Layton; and his brother R. T. Layton Ill (Nick). He is survived by: his wife Charlotte; his son David Jr.; his daughter-in-law Helle; and his grandchildren, Jonathan and Christina.
Along with Anne Howell-Slack and Randy Ludington, he was part of the "Triage Trio" who traveled as representatives of the American Heart and Stroke Association providing information about Heart Attack & Stroke Prevention.
