He was predeceased by: his parents, Wildon Elmo Steele and Bernice Shutt Steele; his wife Thelma; and his siblings, Rhinetta Dukes, Doris Jernigan, Thomas Leonard Steele and Ernest Wayne Steele.
He is survived by: his children, Sheldon Steele (Cheryl) of Stokesdale, Dennis Steele of Belews Creek and Kimberly Howard (Gary) of Stokesdale. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
