He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Smith Vernon; his son Donnie Vernon (Susan) of Greensboro, NC; his grandson Jeremy Vernon of Charlotte, NC; his siblings, Landon Vernon of Madison, NC, Wilma Scott of Surfside Beach, SC and Pat James (Steve) of Mayodan, NC; his brother-in-law Carlyle Smith of Reidsville; and his nephew Carl Smith (Alesia) of Stoneville, NC..
