He is survived by: his wife Dorothy R. 'Dottie' Helms; his children, Patricia W. Smith (Danny) of Bear Creek, NC, Vickie Renee Helms of Stokesdale, Christine Helms of Eden, John Helms of Spartanburg and Sherry Jean Helms of Greensboro; his siblings, Frank Helms of Spartanburg, SC and Ollie Jackson of Inman, SC; and his grandchildren, Crystal Michelle Wood, Dana Kay Smith, Scotty Lee Smith, Jamie Renee Wood, Ryan Neal Wood, Daniel Lee 'Dooner' Smith, Jr., Jacob Sellars, C. J. Sellars, Brandon Axl Parrish, Cierra Cheyenne Oxendine and Jaxon E. Curry. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
