He is survived by: his wife Ann Gates (Medford); his children, Cheryl Horton (Alvin) of Richmond, VA, Keith Gates (Shelia) of Germanton, NC and Karen Maxfield (David) of Charles Town, WV; and his sister Donna Shield (David) of Dutton, VA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
