Ralph Vernon Stamey Obituary
Ralph Vernon Stamey, 74, or Pinehurst, NC passed away at his home on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
Ralph was born in Valdese, NC to the late Conley and Conis (Young) Stamey on August 22, 1948.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Stanly Coble.
Ralph leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 37 years, Carol Coleman Stamey; son, Allen (Christy) Stamey and daughter, Carol Eyvonne Stamey; brothers, Wayne (Sherlene) Stamey and Charles (Diane) Stamey; sisters, Barbara (Terry) Cagnoni and Evelyn Higbee.
Ralph was very well respected. He was awarded the highest citizen award in NC, "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine" by NC State Governor Mike Easley. Ralph had a strong work ethic. He had a lengthy career that began as a motorcycle patrolman in Hickory, NC. He soon started as an officer for the NC Department of Corrections. Working diligently, he advanced to Prison Superintendant/Warden in a 32 year long career.
Ralph was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Hamlet, NC. He was a mason and served two lodges. He was very well rounded as he was an accomplished Licensed Pilot and commercial tour Bus Driver for many years. Ralph enjoyed watching wildlife in his retirement years.
Ralph was a loving husband, father and friend .
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Hamlet, NC with interment in the Columbarium at a later date.
