He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Edward and Cleo Myrtle Marlowe Hartness; his sister Barbara Millsaps; and his sister-in-law Diane Hartness. He is survived by: his wife Opal Jean Duncan Hartness; his son Eric Hartness (Sarah) of Statesville; his siblings, Donald Hartness (Brenda) of Stony Point, Dennis Hartness of Iredell County and Cathy Dishman (Richard) of Iredell County; and his grandsons, Miles and Samuel Hartness.
