He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Lincoln Compton and Hortense Christie Compton; his daughter Laura Overman; and his siblings, Barbara Ingram, Melvin Compton and Joe Compton.
He is survived by: his wife Irene Goodin Compton; his sons, Barry Compton (Tina) and Keith Compton (Donna); and his sisters, Betty Menscer and Louise Johnson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County or Friendship United Methodist Church.
