He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Leroy Plyler and Nell Hemphill Plyler. He is survived by: his sister-in-law Jeannette Glass Plyler; his nephew Jay Brooks Plyler (Patricia); his niece Wendy Plyler VanHoy (John); his great-nieces, Elizabeth Plyler, Rebecca Plyler, Sarah Maria VanHoy and Alvia Jones; and his great-nephew John Michael VanHoy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rotary Club of Statesville, Endowment Fund, PO Box 1524 Statesville, NC 28687.
