It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Neely Gilbert Jr. (Statesville, North Carolina), who passed away on August 24, 2024, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Neely Gilbert, Sr. and Sara Pressly Gilbert; and his sister Frances Gilbert Browne. He is survived by: his wife Harriet Sloop Gilbert; his children, Louise Gilbert Freeman (George) and John Neely Gilbert III (Anna); his grandchildren, Sara Pressly Freeman, Katherine Freeman Early (Josh), George Clemon Freeman IV, John Neely Gilbert IV and Anna Emeline Gilbert; his great grandchild Joseph Howard Early V.; his brother Dr. Paul Pressly Gilbert; and his brothers-in-law, Herbert Howard Browne (Frannie), John Erwin Sloop and Richard Knox Sloop (Sherrie).
