He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Henderson Hudgins and Thelma Pruitt Hudgins; his wife Johnsie Hudgins; and his brother Pruett Baxton Hudgins. He is survived by: his sister Betty Hudgins Brumfield (Buddy) of Keeling; and his children, Howard D. "Chip" Hudgins Jr. of Madison, NC, Marty Hudgins, Eric Hudgins of Wilkesboro, NC, Donna Lynn Hudgins of Greensboro, NC, Renea Hudgins of Wilkesboro, NC. and Connie Call (Rusty) of Wilkesboro, NC.. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
